How Hot Is Too Hot for Quartz Countertops?
Quartz is engineered stone: roughly 90%+ mineral bound with resin. The mineral doesn't mind heat — the resin does. Sustained contact above roughly 300°F can discolor or cloud the resin, and a red-hot pan straight from the burner can leave a permanent white or yellow mark in seconds.
The habit that saves your counters is simple: trivets or hot pads for anything off the stove or out of the oven, and don't run crockpots, air fryers, or toaster ovens directly on the surface for long sessions — put a cutting board or heat mat under them. If a heat mark does appear, it's usually in the top layer of resin; light marks can sometimes be polished out, but a clouded burn often needs professional refinishing.
Do
- Use trivets or hot pads for every hot pan
- Put a board under crockpots and air fryers
- Keep the kettle and coffee maker on a mat
Don’t
- Don't set a pan from the burner directly on quartz
- Don't place an oven rack or hot baking sheet on the counter
- Don't assume 'heat resistant' means heat proof
