How Florida Humidity Affects Your Countertops
Florida humidity is why quartz beats natural stone here: granite and marble absorb airborne moisture and need resealing; quartz can't absorb it at all. The counter itself doesn't swell, warp, or mildew — humidity's effects are all around it and on top of it.
Three humidity habits matter. First, cold drinks and ice buckets sweat heavily here — that water pools and leaves mineral rings, so use coasters and a tray under the ice bucket. Second, the seam where counter meets backsplash never fully dries in humid months; a quick dry wipe after dishes keeps mildew from setting in the gap. Third, your dish towel is now a mildew farm — swap it more often in summer than you think you need. That's it: the stone is fine, the microclimate around it needs managing.
Do
- Use coasters and trays under cold, sweating items
- Dry the counter-to-splash seam after dishes
- Swap dish towels frequently in humid months
Don’t
- Don't store wet sponges flat on the counter
- Don't let ice-melt puddles sit overnight
- Don't worry about the stone itself — it can't absorb moisture
