Your Annual Quartz Countertop Inspection Checklist
Quartz doesn't fail fast — it fails at a seam, a chip, or a sink mount, slowly enough that you stop seeing it. Once a year, give the kitchen ten minutes of honest daylight attention, and you'll catch every developing problem while it's still a cheap fix.
The checklist: run a fingertip along every visible edge and seam, feeling for roughness, lift, or a ridge; look across the surface at a low angle with lights off and daylight on — the 'raking light' reveals haze, dips, and scratches invisible straight-on; check the sink rim for a gap and run the disposal, listening for rattle; check inside corners around the cooktop for hairlines; and photograph anything suspicious with something for scale. A photo in January and a photo in June makes 'has that crack grown?' a two-second answer instead of a debate.
Do
- Run fingertips along edges and seams once a year
- Inspect surfaces at a low daylight angle for haze and dips
- Check the sink mount and disposal sound yearly
Don’t
- Don't wait for a problem to be visible from across the room
- Don't forget the inside corners by the cooktop
- Don't skip the photo — comparisons need a baseline
